Born in Kanagawa, Japan, Takuya Misawa graduated from the Japan Institute of the Moving Image. He previously worked as the assistant director for Au Revoir L Éte, from the Cannes Film Festival Un Certain Regard winning director Koji Fukada. Misawa made his feature film directorial debut Chigasaki Story in 2014, which won the Best Screenplay Award at the Beijing International Film Festival. The film premiered at Singapore International Film Festival, took part in Asian Film Academy at Busan International Film Festival, and toured at various international film festivals. The Murders of Oiso is his first co-production in collaboration with Hong Kong filmmaker Fei-Pang Wong and supported by Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Cinema Fund.
